Arrest in Dahisar Attempted Murder Case
A 36-year-old man, identified as Hanuman Sonwal, has been arrested by the Dahisar police in Mumbai on charges of attempted murder after he allegedly attacked his wife and minor daughter with a blade. The horrific incident occurred in the early hours of December 1st at the family’s residence in Kokanipada, Dahisar East, and has brought to light a disturbing history of domestic abuse and marital discord.
Police reports indicate that Sonwal, who is unemployed and allegedly struggles with alcoholism, frequently fought with his wife, Rajshri, often suspecting her fidelity. The couple’s relationship had deteriorated to the point where Rajshri had already filed for divorce in court. The domestic strife often involved violence, with the 14-year-old daughter—a Class VIII student—reporting that her father frequently beat her mother and would also strike her if she tried to intervene in their fights. She further stated that her father had threatened to kill both of them in their sleep and then die by suicide.
The brutal attack took place around 2:15 am while the mother and daughter were asleep. Exploiting the darkness, Sonwal first slashed his daughter on the neck with a blade. Waking up in pain and sensing blood, the frightened girl turned on the lights. She witnessed her father sitting near her mother and immediately grabbed his hand, an action that woke her mother. Rajshri also struggled to restrain him, but in the ensuing chaos, Sonwal managed to slash his wife on her stomach with the blade.
An alarm raised by Sonwal’s mother-in-law, who was also in the house, quickly drew the attention of neighbours. They rushed to the scene, managed to overpower the accused, and held him until the police arrived. Both victims sustained grievous injuries, with the minor daughter requiring five stitches on her neck. Based on the daughter’s statement, the Dahisar police registered a First Information Report (FIR) and subsequently arrested Sonwal, booking him under sections related to attempted murder and domestic violence. He was produced before a court and remanded to police custody as further investigations into the shocking case are underway. The incident underscores the severity of domestic violence and the tragic impact it has on vulnerable family members.
